The petition challenged the Lt Governor’s authority to nominate aldermen.

Allegations by Delhi Government

The Delhi government claims that the Lt Governor nominated 10 MCD members without consulting them.

The MCD comprises 250 elected members and 10 nominated members.

Chief Justice Chandrachud remarked, “Then, we will stand this over for two weeks. Let us see what happens.”
