Downloading from Outside Sources
In March, people in the EU will have the option to download apps and make purchases from places other than Apple’s App Store. This means they can get apps from different places if they want.
Developer Freedom
Developers, the people who make apps, will now have more freedom. They can choose where they want to sell their apps and how they want to get paid. They can also distribute their apps without relying solely on Apple’s App Store.
App Review Process
Even though developers have more freedom, Apple will still check the apps to make sure they’re safe and work well for users. They’ll focus on keeping the platform safe and protecting users.
Changes in Commission
Apple is changing how much money developers have to pay them. Right now, developers pay a certain percentage of their earnings to Apple. For subscriptions and in-app purchases, they’ll pay 17% initially, but this will drop to 10% after the first year. This means developers will keep more of their money in the long run.
New Fees Introduced
Apple is adding some new fees too. There will be a 3% fee for processing payments through Apple’s store. Additionally, for every app download after the first million, there will be a €0.50 fee.
Impact on Developers
Most developers are expected to pay less to Apple under this new structure, especially after the first year. However, bigger developers might feel the impact of the new fees, especially the core technology fee for popular apps.
